Belmont Golf Course to get $4M transformation in deal with First Tee

The century-old Belmont Golf Course soon will be transformed as part of an ambitious $4 million plan led by a local nonprofit.

The First Tee of Greater Richmond on Tuesday was awarded the contract to take over management of the Henrico County-owned course, after pitching a plan to modernize Belmont by converting its current 18 holes into a six-hole short course and a 12-hole course that would rely on many of the bones of its original design from 1916, as well as adding a driving range and practice areas.

Newly launched concert promoter to handle booking for revamped Ashland Theatre

A group of local concert promoters have banded together for a new partnership.

Lucas Fritz and Matt McDonald, owners of the The Broadberry and The Camel, along with long-time promoter Jessica Gordon, The Trigger System, recently launched the Broadberry Entertainment Group…

Broadberry Entertainment will serve as the exclusive booking agent for the Ashland Theatre, a 70-year-old newly renovated venue located at 205 England St. that can seat 300 people. The theater is scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of this year, Fritz said.

Cycling Without Age comes to St. Francis Home

Cycling Without Age, a cycling program originating in Denmark, has made its way to Richmond, debuting in September at St. Francis Home, a ministry of the Diocese of Richmond that cares for 125 seniors and disabled adults with limited means.

With hundreds of chapters worldwide, Cycling Without Age is designed to help the elderly who are in care facilities overcome loneliness by regularly taking them out for rides in a specially built bike called a “trishaw.”

There’s a new private school opening its doors this weekend with a goal of keeping education affordable to parents.

Cardinal Newman Academy is a school that’s starting small. So far there are just three students enrolled at the school in a rented space at Bon Air Baptist at the Village. That’s near the corner of Three Chopt Road and Patterson Avenue in Richmond’s West End. It’s a co-ed Catholic school.
